CRU Bid & Bash
$10K Raffle
Our $10K Raffle officially kicked off this week! This is one of our school's largest fundraisers, and we are so thankful for the support of every Crusader.
Tickets are $25 each...and one lucky person will take home $10,000 when the winning ticket is drawn on Saturday, February 19!
Students are asked to sell four tickets each. We know that many parents will purchase tickets themselves (and we THANK YOU for your support), but please know that we have encouraged students to ask for support from extended family, friends, neighbors, etc.
Tickets can be purchased online @ https://e.givesmart.com/s/:RL1jYSIVbSY/e/osb (a link can also be found on the front page of our school website @ shdhs.org).
When purchasing tickets, be sure to include the name of the student, faculty, or staff member that should receive credit for the sale (if applicable).
And as always...our goal is to sell 2,000 or more tickets total. If we can meet or beat our goal again this year, our entire school will earn a DAY OFF SCHOOL!

Academic Showcase
Visual Art Kids kicked off Christmas Break with a bang!
The Visual Art students had a pretty busy last week of school with exams and a trip to Color Me Mine. All Art students created a project based on a specific idea for their exam and then participated in a class critique where they talked about their art and received constructive feedback from peers. The exam projects exceeded expectations and turned out AMAZING.
A group of Art Club students and Mrs. VonHandorf and Ms. Brady took a Christmas trip to Color Me Mine to glaze custom ceramic pieces. While some were created as Christmas gifts, ALL the pieces turned out great!
English Exam
For a lot of students, this past semester was their first experience with exams. Our staff, wonderful and aware as ever, proactively helped our students prepare to succeed! Miss Vollmer decided to make a memorable experience for her sophomore students. She transformed a classroom into Candyland! Students journeyed through different categories of questions as they landed on different blocks of the game. While no one got lost in the Candy Cane Forest, there were a few sticky situations along the way to keep things interesting, like star squares with special challenges and the ability to send a group back a few spaces. Who says studying can’t be fun?

Campus Ministry
All School Mass, Thursday, January 6
As a district high school, SHDHS is blessed by the diversity of members of many Catholic parishes and other faith communities. This week, we were pleased to welcome ministers from Mary Queen of Heaven as leaders of our school Mass. Fr. Matthias, Deacon Larry Kleisinger, and musicians, Mr. Tom Kolhepp and Mrs. Michelle Rater, who lifted us in worship.
Prayer
Good and gracious God, thank you for the foundation of the Catholic education and the SHDHS community. Help our students grow in faith. Set their minds on things above not only on worldly concerns. (Colossians 3:3) May they be transformed by the renewal of their minds (Romans 13:26). Bless the Juniors who are on retreat this week and all the special intentions of our entire community, especially those who are ill. Amen.

Ms. Grosser is proud to nominate Avery Pleiman as Crusader of the Week for Algebra I Honors. Avery is an exceptional student, but it is her work ethic that sets her apart from others. She consistently works hard to complete all assignments, asks insightful questions for further comprehension, and is always willing to assist her peers while in class. Congratulations, Avery!
Mr. Otte would like to nominate Lake Durrett for Crusader of the Week for Biology Honors. Lake is an excellent student who always has a positive attitude in class. He is polite and unassuming. Lake is never afraid to ask questions and shows a genuine interest in Biology. Congratulations Lake!!
