Academic Showcase
After a reprieve of several years, the Cincinnati Shakespeare company made its return to SHDHS! On January 11th, all seniors and Drama I/II/III students saw a performance of Macbeth (the fast and furious of Shakespeare's tragedies). The plot is simple: Macbeth, compelled by his wife, witches, and his own desire for glory, begins a tirade of murder and upheaval among the Scottish court. Murder, madness, and mayhem captivated our students for the duration of this five-act tragedy. Students also took part in a short Q&A after the performance, inquiring about the actor's passion for Shakespeare, taking care of props, rehearsal time, and crazy things that have occurred during performances! What a gift for our students to be exposed to such an impactful cultural experience. We can't wait to welcome CincyShakes back for a performance again soon!
STEM/STEM HONORS
The STEM/STEM Honors students enjoyed learning about light and optics in lab this past week through a series of 6 stations which included calculating the speed of light with a microwave oven and a chocolate bar, taking an eye exam, and looking at optical lenses/devices. Enjoy these pictures of your students at work and ask them what they know about the speed of light?
Psychology
The psychology baby project kicked off this week. Students will learn how to care for the physical demands of an infant using an infant simulator. These amazing babies will track everything from feedings to how long they cry before being cared for. If you see these students out and about, please encourage them! This project is intended to give students a greater appreciation for their parents, compassion for all parents, the skills needed to care for a baby and so much more!

Crusaders of the Week
The Crusader of the Week for English III Honors is Breanna Riegler. Ms. Vieth describes Bree as a student who has a sterling work ethic that propels her in all aspects of her life, not just academics. In English III Honors, she willingly puts herself on the line through participation when no one else will. She advocates for help when she struggles with concepts or strategies and actively applies the knowledge she acquires to her writing. In small groups, she works well with others and helps improve the skills of her classmates in addition to her own. Most importantly she exemplifies Christian behavior as she treats her teachers and her classmates with kindness and respect. She is a pleasure to have in class. Congratulations Bree!
It is my distinct pleasure to nominate Kiwi Ziolkowski as the Crusader of the Week for World History. Mr. Graue notes that Kiwi is an outstanding student who always comes to class prepared and enthusiastic. She is constantly engaged in class and has a smile on her face. When she walks into the first period you are guaranteed to be greeted with a good morning and leave class each day with a thank you. Congratulations to Kiwi and keep up the good work!
