Dear Cru Family,
Crusaders, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year. We are excited to have students and faculty back in the classrooms.
Our dedicated teachers have been preparing for our students' arrival this past week. We have reflected on our faith and our academic theme of “Designing to the Edges.” We acknowledge every student does not learn the same way and are dedicated to optimizing each student's learning potential.
Another major component of our professional development was the “Youth Mental Health First Aid Training.” We understand the social and emotional impact that students face these days. Mrs. Roebker, Head of the Guidance/Counseling department, partnered with Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio to provide an in-person training session on the challenging experiences our youth face today and how we assist them. All faculty/staff received a 3-year certification from the Mental Health First Aid and the National Council of Behavioral Health.
A few reminders for Monday, August 15th: Doors open at 7:00 am, and we will have a noon dismissal (no lunch). If you pick up your child, we ask you to park in the main lot and wait for your child to come to you. We have a Professional Development day planned with our feeder schools at 12:30, so the parking lot will be more crowded than normal. We appreciate your help in departing campus as soon as you safely can.
I look forward to seeing the students walk through the door Monday. Our faculty and staff are excited about the 2022-2023 school year! Please welcome our new faculty and staff. Below is a short bio and picture of each new member.
Thank you, and Go Cru!

Welcome New Faculty and Staff 22-23

Fr. Jason, the pastor of St. Paul Church, is a native of Nashville, TN. He is a 2007 graduate of Thomas More College and was ordained a priest in 2016. If it weren’t for the priestly collar, however, he could perhaps be mistaken for a student, easily blending in with them in the hallways. Like most students, his favorite foods include pizza, hamburgers, and candy. He is a fan of the movie Die Hard and has been known to play video games and “shred” a guitar.
Fr. Jason is eager to meet students where they are and engage with them about faith and daily life. Beneath his youthful temperament is a treasury of knowledge about the Church and a deep, radical love for Christ and the sacraments. Father will be on campus several times a week. In addition to weekly Mass, confession, and adoration, he might be found hanging out with Student Council, playing guitar, talking about his greyhound, Gemma, or watching SHDHS athletics. While he typically doesn’t play sports, he has a competitive spirit, noting that he “plays to win.” Father’s main mission is to win souls for Christ! We welcome Fr. Jason to the Crusader family!

Annie’s vocation began in high school, where theology and world religions piqued her interest. She continued those interests at Xavier University, receiving degrees in Theology, Social Justice, and Social Work in 2019. Her professional experience includes retreat ministry, youth ministry, and hospital chaplaincy.
Annie has a warm and adventurous personality. She is inspired by several modern saints, particularly blessed Carlo Acutis and Chiara Corbella Petrillo. She finds her happy place watching episodes of Stranger Things, playing pickleball, traveling, and eating Skyline with her husband, Daniel Poat (2012).
Annie is filling the role of Campus Minister. Her role includes leading the service program, retreats, and campus faith initiatives. Annie is excited to get to know the students of SHDHS and walk with them on their spiritual journey. She will be known around campus as “Annie” to eliminate confusion with the other Mrs. Poat, religion teacher, and former campus minister. The name Annie means “favored” or “gracious” in Hebrew, and that is how we feel having her on staff.

Chrisi attended NKU for Music Education from 2014 to 2018. After graduating with her Bachelor's Degree, she taught choir for three years at Pleasant Run Middle School in Colerain, Ohio, and assisted in their show choir and drama programs.
Chrisi has seven years of experience teaching private voice lessons, as well as assisting in directing many summer musicals at her alma mater, East Central High School in St. Leon, IN.
Chrisi loves music, theater, teaching, and her faith. Chrisi said, "I believe I was meant to be here, and God led me to the perfect position. I look forward to working with the community, continuing to nurture a flourishing program, and I cannot wait to see what this school year brings.”

This is his 37th year of teaching. He has three children: Blair, 35, lives in Manhattan. Brandon, 30, and Brittany, 28, both live in Cincinnati. He welcomed his first grandbaby, Ruby Kate (pictured), in May.
Dan will teach Algebra 2, PreCalculus, and Physical Education. Once a crusader, always a Crusader! Welcome back.

Nate served fourteen years as a science teacher at Highlands and Ryle High Schools. While there, he taught Chemistry and AP Physics. He also coached basketball at Ryle for eleven years. He has twelve years of experience as the Assistant Principal at Ryle and just finished four years as Principal at Dixie Heights High School.

Campus Ministry
Prayer for the Start of the School Year
Blessed are you, Lord God, Creator of body, mind, and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways.
At the beginning of this new school year, we implore your mercy: bless the students, families, teachers, and staff of SHDHS, that together, we may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son, Jesus.
Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need.
Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.
Amen
