Trunk or Treat Donations
The Enrollment Department is in need of bags of individually wrapped candy for our "Trunk or Treat" event on October 20. It would be greatly appreciated if you would consider donating a bag of candy for this event. We have invited more than 1,600 potential Future Crusaders (toddlers thru 8th graders) to "Trunk or Treat" with us on our campus. Every Crusader club and the athletic team will decorate a car/truck and hand out candy. Last year we had over 200 families attend...and we expect an even larger response for this year's event. Thank you in advance for your support!

Crusaders of the Week

Mr. Fay nominates Camryn Reymond Chemistry Honors Crusader of the Week. Camryn is a stellar student in every way. Not only does she work hard to comprehend the course material, she maintains a positive attitude and is supportive of her peers in the process. Camryn is inquisitive (seeking to understand concepts more deeply), respectful of others (treating everyone with kindness), and determined to succeed (making every effort to master the curriculum). Congratulations Camryn!
Mrs. Finke nominates Bennett Ober Algebra 1 Crusader of the Week. Bennett has taken on full responsibility for his education. He has advocated for additional help before school, during class, during flex, and after school to help him understand the material. I am proud of all his progress thus far and excited to see him continue to grow throughout the year. Not only does he work hard, but he also treats peers and teachers with respect, making him a great Crusader of the Week. Way to go Bennett!

Campus Ministry

Several parents and students attended YES for Life Rally at the State Capital in Frankfort last Saturday morning.
This week in Campus Ministry, we held our bi-weekly Rosary during FLEX, weekly Adoration and Confession, Freshman Retreat, and our second all-school Mass. Thank you for all of your prayers! I encourage you to continue praying for the students and their spiritual life and growth.
On Tuesday, October 4, the Church celebrated Saint Francis of Assisi's feast day. Saint Francis was born in a noble class in Italy and was a reckless "party boy" as a youth. His conversion came after a battle wound which led him to great isolation and self-contemplation. In his recovery, Francis read stories about the saints and decided to live as virtuously as they had. Francis established the Franciscan order, exuded servant leadership, and frequently contemplated and meditated. Toward the end of Francis' life, he received the stigmata (the wounds of Christ). Below is a prayer that Francis wrote with great humility in his heart. I encourage you to pray this with your family!
“O Divine Master, grant that I may not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood, as to understand. To be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
― St. Francis of Assisi

On Wednesday, Mr. Reeves taught all SHDHS freshmen how to calculate GPA and KEES Scholarship amounts. Sometimes academic motivation is a matter of facts and figures! “Your GPA begins now.”
Senior Parents: Line by Line FAFSA Video
The FAFSA opened on October 1, and if you are looking for support filling that out, KHEAA has put together an excellent line by line instructional video. The Counseling Office is still planning a virtual training for you, but in the meantime, our friends at KHEAA can help out.
