HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST (HSPT) - Saturday, December 10
- The HSPT will be administered on Saturday, December 10. Click here to register.
- If your student has a current formalized education plan (i.e., ALP, IEP, 504, etc.) and plans to request accommodations for the HSPT, they must be pre-registered by December 1, and the Accommodations option must be selected (this allows time for a thorough review of records for accommodation planning purposes). A PDF copy of the current plan must be uploaded at the time of registration.
- The registration deadline for those requesting an audio reader is November 21 (to allow time for those materials to be ordered). If you have specific questions regarding accommodations, please get in touch with Laci Shea (lshea@shdhs.org).
- Scholarships, beginning at 25% of Tuition & Fees, will be awarded to students whose test results fall within the top 10% of tests administered at SHDHS (the total number of scholarships offered will vary based upon the number of students who test at SHDHS). Per diocesan guidelines, SHDHS can only offer merit-based HSPT Scholarships to students who take the HSPT at St. Henry District High School.

Crusaders of the Week

Nov. 21-25
Hope Huser is nominated for Crusader of the Week for Art 2- Drawing and Painting by Mrs. VonHandorf. Hope has done a phenomenal job this year, rising to the challenge of working with a lot of new media, coming up with creative ideas, and doing her absolute best day in and day out. Hope is one of the hardest-working students in the class and sets a great example of how hard work can pay off. She has improved leaps and bounds since Art 1 and demonstrates an admirable commitment to growth. I appreciate her humor, her willingness to interact with classmates, and her perseverance. WAY TO ROCK, HOPE!
The Crusader of the Week for Latin II is Emma Fischer. Emma has the admittedly lousy luck of being scheduled into Latin II during the first period. Although it can be a struggle to conjugate verbs and parse sentences at this early hour, Emma always shows up ready to participate and engage with the material. Emma is always willing to ask questions when she needs clarification, help her fellow students when working on a group project, and make vocabulary notecards for extra credit - even though she doesn't need the extra points. Congratulations, Emma, and keep up the good work!

Nov. 28-Dec. 2
Mrs. Reding would like to nominate senior Jack Goodwin for Crusader of the Week in AP Stats. From the beginning of the school year, Jack has welcomed the challenges of learning statistics. This is a different kind of math, and he has shown good instincts and the ability to make connections between topics as the material builds. He provides the class with insightful observations, often using his signature wit and humor. He is a positive leader among his peers, especially when working together on small group quizzes.
Thank you, Jack, for making this first semester of AP Stats interactive and fun. Keep up the great work! Congratulations!
Mr. Faust nominates Anna Quinn Crusader of the Week for Personal Business Management. In class, Anna has always been cooperative and participates in instructional discussions. She is well-organized and does not hesitate to ask questions when the subject matter is unclear. When doing her work, she is very meticulous. Anna's positive attitude and generosity make for a positive environment in the classroom. Congratulations Anna!

Academic Showcase/Clubs

The SHDHS Spanish Honor Society, AP Spanish, and Spanish 3 classes collaborated on a service learning project this fall with the COAR Peace Mission. COAR serves vulnerable children and their community by providing foster care for 50-100 students, schooling for 1,000 children, and services for the community, including a health clinic and pharmacy. Through this service project, SHDHS students can apply their language skills in real-life situations while helping the mission continue to serve its students. For the past few weeks, we have been working on translating letters from students at the peace mission in El Salvador to their sponsors here in the United States. This is the third year we have assisted with the COAR Peace Mission. Our Spanish Honor Society chose this organization because it is a faith-based mission serving at-risk youth and helping with their educational and career goals while making a huge impact in their community.

Judicial Selection Scenario in AP Government
Mrs. Kaiser-Munday's AP Government students are learning how the executive branch appoints judges to different positions in the judicial branch. They look over criteria and then compare how different judges can fit and not in certain presidential eras.

AP Human Geography Culture Lesson
Mrs. Kaiser-Munday's AP Human Geography class is in their Culture unit and is studying world religions. With Hanukkah right around the corner starting on December 18, students were given the opportunity to play with dreidels and learn the story of Hanukkah from scripture.

Campus Ministry

Students volunteered at the after-school art program at St. Paul, Mary Rose Mission, GoPantry, and at our Open House.
Service Overview - 1st Semester
We have just concluded our first semester service hour requirement this week. Between all classes, we logged over 8,000 service hours! Students volunteered at various amazing non-profit organizations such as Mary Rose Mission, Rose Garden Mission, Go Pantry, Saint Vincent de Paul, Special Olympics, BeConcerned, Master Provisions, BridgePoint Nursing Home, Welcome House, Last Mile Food Rescue, and many more! Service is an excellent way for students to interact with the community and to go beyond themselves to serve people they may have never met. Wonderful job, SHDHS students!
Some quick reminders for service for next semester:
All Service completed after November 30 will be applied to 2nd Semester service requirements.
The following does NOT count for SHDHS service:
- Making baked goods or care packages at home
- Babysitting or helping grandparents, parents, family members, and neighbors
- Anything NOT with a non-profit organization
Red Service entails working onsite with an established non-profit organization that serves the poor, marginalized, or disadvantaged.
White Service entails onsite work sponsored and supervised at school, church, or civic community center (again, it MUST be a non-profit).

Counselors Corner
ATTENTION FRESHMEN & SOPHOMORE PARENTS
On December 5-6, the freshmen and sophomore classes will be taking the Terrace Metrics Inc. assessment during class to examine their social/emotional strengths and needs. While not a diagnosis tool, this survey will allow us to gauge their needs and provide valuable support and interventions as needed.
For this survey, we will be looking at the following resilience indicators:
- Global Satisfaction
- Hope
- Leadership
- Personal Standards
- Positive School Experience
- Resiliency
The data gathered via Terrace Metrics is kept strictly confidential, and only those in the Counseling Department and Administration will have access. If you do not want your freshman or sophomore student to participate, please inform Mrs. Roebker via email: mroebker@shdhs.org.
