Crusaders of the Week

In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus says, "Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No,'" defining the meaning of integrity in straightforward terms. Emma Linkugel is a student who exemplifies those qualities in AP Language, a class that explores the power of rhetoric. Ms. Vieth also notes that Emma is a student who uses her thoughtfulness and reason to shape her speech and writing. She demonstrates excellent critical thinking skills in class discussions, essays, and homework. While in small groups, she works well with others and helps improve the skills of her classmates as she increases her own. Most importantly, she models Christian behavior by treating her teachers and classmates with kindness and respect. Congratulations Emma! She is a pleasure to have in class.
Ms. Brady nominates junior Jake Elfers for U.S. History's Student of the Week. Jake has demonstrated a real mastery of the content throughout our course this year. He consistently engages during class lectures, structured work time, and group activities. He shows a true desire to learn and understand topics in U.S. History far beyond what is given or expected of him in class. Jake has also scored consistently well on assessments, particularly on written assessments which require a true comprehension of the material and the ability to articulate what you know. His work ethic, chill demeanor, positive attitude, and dedication to learning benefit his overall performance in this course. Congratulations Jake! You are a real joy to have in class. Keep up the good work!

Academic Showcase/Clubs

Valentine's Treats with the Culinary Club
The Culinary Club celebrated the sweetness of February by learning to make a variety of truffles and dipping all sorts of delicious items in chocolate. Chef Coronado provided instruction on decorating so our treats looked as good as the expensive ones in stores.
During March, the club will have sessions on salads/dressings and Asian cuisine/sushi. Additionally, club members will attend eucharistic adoration during Flex on March 16 in honor of Lent.

Can You Taste The Rainbow?
After conducting a blind taste test, AP Stats students performed a significance test to determine whether they could taste the different colors of Skittles. The statistically significant conclusion is that, in general, YES! You can taste the rainbow!

Health
The freshman health students are studying the nervous system and created BRAIN CAPS to help visualize and reflect on how the brain works. This hands-on activity helped basic brain anatomy come to life (cerebrum, four lobes, cerebellum, and brainstem). Hopefully, this project enabled the freshman students to see how amazing their BRAINS are!

AP Biology
AP BIO seniors model the results of the classic Meselson and Stahl experiment
while studying DNA replication.
