John Lubert., Gabe Thelen., and Ryan Hartman (under the direction of Mrs. Kaiser-Munday) competed in the inaugural Kentucky State Personal Finance Challenge. Last month, they took the online test to qualify and were one of four teams that merited entry to the state competition out of 115 teams and 450 students. The task was to present a plan for a family in financial crisis to a panel of judges. The Crusaders placed first and will travel to Cleveland to participate in the national championship in May!
UC IT Expo
Seniors Aaron Milner and Samuel Lunnemann won the high school competition at the UC IT Expo on Tuesday, April 9. Their project, SARCO, is a device that helps search and rescue teams coordinate their efforts using GPS and online maps. The team gathered skills in 3D printing, programming, website design, and presentation for their project. The UC competition was the last in a string of accomplishments, including winning at Tech Olympics in February and second at the NKY Capture-the-Flag competition in March.
Heart Safe School
SHDHS has teamed up with Children's Hospital to become a “Heart Safe School” certified through Project Adam. During one of our Professional Development days before the beginning of the school year, our faculty became certified in CPR and AED training. Throughout the school year, our team and students have practiced the protocols in case we have to respond to a cardiac emergency. Recently, we participated in a live drill where local EMT first responders and Children's Hospital staff were on site. One classroom was picked out, unbeknown to them, to respond to a cardiac arrest. It was very successful! Mr. Zvosecz's sophomores did a fantastic job!

CRUSADER OF THE WEEK
Mr. Trame nominates Junior Brady Dickman for Crusader of the Week for Algebra 2.
"Brady Dickman has put on an absolute clinic in Algebra 2 since Day 1. He has dominated this class in every phase and aspect of the class and in every sense of the word. The reasons for Brady's success, you ask? First and foremost, Brady is there daily, taking notes, paying attention, and engaging in his learning. Secondly, he has worked very hard. His assignments are turned in on time, at the appointed time, and with evidence of tremendous effort and pride. Lastly, his near perfection on all assessments demonstrates diligent preparation, the ability to perform under pressure, and his pursuit of excellence in all that he does. Congratulations, Brady Dickman, Crusader of the Week!

Students can take free career assessments in April and register for optional Flex sessions to discuss their results. Online career assessments are for career exploration purposes only, and the results are not definitive. This is an excellent opportunity for students and parents to discuss post-secondary options and future career opportunities.
Assessment featured this week: O*NET Interest Profiler: The O*NET Interest Profiler (IP) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor. The IP is a free family of self-assessment career exploration tools that can help individuals discover the type of work activities and occupations they would like and find exciting. The IP can be self-administered and self-interpreted, and the results can be directly linked to over 900 occupations in the O*NET Online database. The completion time for the IP is approximately 20 minutes.

10th GRADE ENGLISH
Miss Vollmer's English 10 Classes took a break from the Research Paper this week to talk about how things we like or are curious about make great topics for short stories! Using the framework of the popular TV show Phineas and Ferb, she led them through a few brainstorming activities, how to create characters, and how to establish a short story plot. Students even had some writing time to allow their creative minds to come to life! We may have a future author or two in the Cru!
