Dear SHDHS Families,
As we approach the end of the 2023-2024 school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect and celebrate the many accomplishments and milestones that we have achieved together. Our Catholic identity is at the heart of our mission and provides a faith-based education to SHDHS students. Our Campus Minister, Annie Poat, has provided faith-based opportunities to our students and faculty, including weekly mass, reconciliation, faith-based retreats, and adoration opportunities.
In addition to our Catholic faith, we also value academic excellence. SHDHS has been recognized as a two-time recipient of the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. This past year, we have celebrated several remarkable achievements, such as Emma Linkugel being recognized as a National Merit Finalist, six students being selected for the Governor Scholars Program, four students being selected as Governor School of the Arts scholars, the implementation of our “Gifted and Talented” program, and continuing to invest in our AAIMS program which provides additional academic support for students with learning challenges. Our Flex period is utilized for ALL students to get the extra teacher and counselor support they need any day of the week.
This past year, our students have also excelled outside the classroom. Our Science Olympiad, Academic, and Robotics teams all received numerous accolades. We placed first in the Kentucky State Personal Finance Challenge and captured titles at the University of Cincinnati IT EXPO and Tech Olympics. Our SHDHS choir performed at the Diocesan Christmas celebration in front of Most Reverend Bishop Iffert, and the Drama Department put on a musical for the ages, “Willy Wonka,” which was performed in our beautiful Drees Homes Auditorium. Our sports teams continue to perform at high levels, with state championship appearances, state titles, and numerous individual records being broken. It is truly amazing how talented our students are, as well as how they embody the values of faith, excellence, and community.
I would also like to provide you with some information about the upcoming school year. We recently surveyed our community about the addition of an SRO (School Resource Officer) for the safety and security of our campus during school hours. Our school board reviewed the survey results, and with many respondents supporting adding an SRO as part of our operating budget, we have decided to add one for this upcoming school year. We are excited and grateful to partner with the Boone County Police Department to continue our commitment to a safe environment.
Additionally, we are committed to providing a quality staff with the necessary resources to continually improve on the most important aspect of our school, which is educating your children. Therefore, the administration and SHDHS School Board have determined the need to increase our tuition by 4% and school fees by $50. We understand that this decision may be difficult for some families, but we will continue to be financially responsible while providing a strong faith-based education for all families. We will also continue to offer financial aid and scholarship opportunities. As we look to the future of SHDHS, we remain committed to growing spiritually and academically and providing our mission of Catholic identity with academic excellence. We value your continued support and involvement in our school community, and we are grateful for your trust in us as partners in your child’s faith and education!
