Information from the front office
Reporting Tardy, Absence, or COVID-19 related illness or exposure
We have a 24-hour message system for parents to report students tardy, absent, or have COVID-19 related illnesses or exposure. Please call the main office any time of the day or night at 859-525-0255, press zero (0), and follow the instructions.
Reminder: Absentee Notes Required
Upon returning from an absence period (either whole or half-day), a student is responsible for bringing a note from their parents or guardian. A note is required even if parents pick up their child or talk to the office by phone. This note must include the following information: 1) the date the note was written, 2) the student’s first and last name, 3) the date of the absence, 4) specific reason for the absence, and 5) signature of parent/guardian.
Daily Health Assessment
Each student is required to conduct a daily personal health assessment prior to their arrival at school. Please remember to check for fevers and any signs or symptoms of illness. Students should stay home if they are not feeling well.
Masks
Masks will still be required this coming week, 9/13-9/17. St. Henry District High School will not be supplying masks to students. Students must enter the building with a mask from home. We will provide a mask if a student's mask breaks. Last week we supplied over 1000 masks to students.

Academic Showcase
Anatomy and Anatomy Honors
Mrs. Maloney's Anatomy and Anatomy Honors students practiced new skills and received hands-on experience with directional terminology and exploratory surgery by performing an autopsy on Mr. Pickle. Students determined Mr. Pickle’s cause of death and completed an autopsy report. Next week students begin the challenging Histology unit, studying the structure and function of various body tissues.
Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM)
Mrs. Bessler's STEM students completed the Scientific Method Bubble Gum lab this week. The purpose of this lab was to increase their skills in using lab equipment and tools, recording measurements, identifying variables, creating a hypothesis, data tables and graphs, and writing a lab report. Based on the data collected on the sugar and sugar-free gum, they ran the same tests on a "mystery gum" and used their data to identify it as either sugar or sugar-free gum. I don't think it is a "stretch" to call this lab a success!

2021 PLAYING FOR A PURPOSE T-SHIRT
The St. Henry District High School and Notre Dame Academy Girls Volleyball Teams will be “Playing For a Purpose” on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Ryle High School Gymnasium, with game times at 4:30 pm,6 & 7:30 pm. This 13th annual event was encouraged by the KHSAA but inspired by Janet Chambers. Janet Chambers is a breast cancer survivor and the founder of “I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation''. The volleyball squads are using the volleyball match to fundraise and promote breast cancer education and awareness. Both schools will be selling t-shirts to wear at the game and show support for the cause. The cost of the t-shirts is $10.00, and all the proceeds go to the “I Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation.” Please make all checks payable to SHDHS.
Shirts will go on sale starting Monday, September 13, during all three lunch periods. Shirts will be sold every day until they are sold out. Students can wear the Playing For A Purpose T-Shirt with uniform pants to school on Sept. 23.

Diocesan Senior Mass
All Seniors will be attending the annual Diocesan Senior Mass at the Cathedral, Friday, Sept 17. Mass begins at 1:00, and Seniors will depart by bus from school after lunch. More information will be provided this week through Religion Class.
Senior Retreat - Change of Date
The September retreat date is rescheduled. Therefore, both retreat dates are in November (Nov 2-4 or Nov 16-18). Seniors will be allowed to register for their choice of dates based upon their schedule and extracurricular activities.
Diocesan Eucharistic Retreat - Summit 21 (formerly called Youth 2000)
October 8-10 at Notre Dame Academy is open to individuals ages 13 - 22. Student reps from SHDHS are needed for the core team as well as Virtus-trained chaperones. For more information, click here or email Angie Poat at [email protected].
Adoration
A local church sign reads, “Normal isn’t coming back, but Jesus is!” As we navigate changing protocols and schedules, it is nice to know one person who doesn’t change, Jesus. The school spent “facetime” with Jesus Friday in Eucharistic Adoration, planning to continue the devotion every First Friday.
Prayer
We adore you, O Lord Jesus Christ, and we bless you because, by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world. Thank You for the graces that You give us daily. Help us serve and honor you in our homes and school. Amen.

Crusader of the Week
Ms. Brady nominates Isaac "Billy" Portwood as Crusader of the Week in AP United States History. Isaac has demonstrated a strong drive and dedication to his APUSH course week in the few short weeks since school began. His weekly reading quizzes and "main idea" logs have been stellar, and on his first content quiz over Period 1, he earned a perfect score. Isaac has also been a positive influence in the classroom. He is consistently engaged, communicates well with his peers, and has enhanced the learning environment by sharing his researched insights and perspectives. Great job, Isaac! Keep being an APUSH rockstar!
The Crusader of the Week for AP English IV is Grace Laudenslayer. Even though school has only been in session three weeks, Grace has distinguished herself with her summer assignments and the day-to-day habits she practices in class. She possesses excellent study skills, and her ability to organize tasks and activities allows her to complete her work well and in a timely fashion. During class discussions, Grace often offers insightful comments, and, most importantly, she exhibits a Christian attitude, treating her classmates and her teachers with great respect and kindness. Congratulations Grace! She is a pleasure to have in class.

September is Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month - a time to raise awareness on this stigmatized and often taboo topic. In addition to shifting public perception, this month is dedicated to spreading hope and vital information. Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues. The goal of the awareness month is to ensure individuals, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. Parents, please click here if you'd like to read more about risk factors for teens.
IMPORTANT: If you or a loved one have thoughts of self-harm or need immediate support, you can contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255/TALK) or Crisis Text Line by texting “NAMI” to 741-741. In a life-threatening situation, go to your nearest psychiatric emergency room or call 911.

FEC NEWS
HOCO PARADE/FLOATS - Postponed until next school year. The School Administration and FEC have made the difficult decision to postpone our first Homecoming Parade until next year. With the focus on the uptick of Covid in our area and the extra time spent on several other Back-To-School events, we were unable to kick off the float teams on time. Now it is proving challenging to get everything back on track with just three weeks until Homecoming. Thank you to Tim Kappes for his hard work on creating our Parade Float Guidelines & Policies. It will for sure be put to use next year at this time! We hope to have the 2022 Homecoming theme picked at the end of this school year by Student Council. We will then recruit and talk to the students about the floats/parade and get those committees initiated before school is out. Thank you for your understanding and support. Please direct any questions to Elaine Stich at [email protected].
HOCO TAILGATE - Still on! Our first Homecoming Tailgate is planned for Thursday, September 30, right after school, until 5 pm, when the Varsity Boys Soccer Team takes the field. Students should plan to stay after school and join the fun! Parents, families, and alumni are all welcome to attend as well. More details will be available soon! Please contact Elaine Stich at [email protected] if you are interested in helping plan and work the tailgate.
STAFF GRANTS - The FEC will be opening up Staff Grants starting next week. Staff will have three weeks to fill out the grant form and submit it to the FEC for consideration. Thank you, Laci Shea, for your assistance with the grant process! We are looking forward to helping our teachers and staff reach their funding goals.
PAMPERED CHEF - Let's Do This! We had a great first week of sales for our FEC Pampered Chef Fundraiser - thank you!! Please be sure to share the link with everyone so we can reach our goal.
