OPENING NIGHT TONIGHT!

SHDHS CruNews students took a field trip to WKRC-TV Local 12 News, where they received a firsthand look at how local news is produced each day in Cincinnati. They met with directors, editors, writers, anchors, and producers, and toured the entire station. Throughout the visit, they were introduced to employees from a variety of departments who work together to deliver the day’s broadcast.
During the walkthrough, students observed each step of the process leading up to a live newscast. CruNews can now proudly say, “We were there, behind the cameras, when Local 12 News went live at 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning.”

On Halloween, our junior English classes concluded The Crucible by holding a themed dinner with Goody Proctor. Students enjoyed symbolic snacks and treats inspired by the play, and they participated in a Confession Bowl, reading anonymous confessions and guessing which character would have confessed and why.
With the play behind us, cheers to successful research papers ahead!

Mrs. Allender presented to the Cru 101 and AP Human Geography classes this week on how to manage stress. They practiced stress management by exercising, remembering the things they're thankful for and the things they love, and spending time with a special guest, Dax the Therapy Dog!
Mrs. Sargent's dog, Dax, is a certified therapy dog who helps bring joy to people in hospitals, behavioral healthcare facilities, and more. He definitely brought a lot of joy to our staff and students this week!

For the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), Spanish I students built an altar to honor and remember deceased loved ones and to celebrate their lives when they were with us. Students learned how this tradition blends ancient Mesoamerican customs with Spanish influences.

Congratulations to Julia Fernandez (class of 2025) for being selected to have her work published in the national publication for the Spanish Honor Society, Albricias. Julia's artwork was chosen to be the front cover of the magazine for the November 2025 issue, as the winner of the Albricias First Place Art Award. Julia's piece, titled "España en llamas" depicts a profoundly beautiful painting of the elements of Spanish culture and how the increasing wildfires in Spain have affected Spanish society and its essential cultural representations. We are so proud of our alumna Julia, and her superb application of her Spanish and art education here at SHDHS.

Mrs. Vieth nominated Sophomore Liam McCormack for Crusader of the Week in English II Honors.
"Among a sophomore class of stellar students, Liam shines brightly. He is a student who is very invested in his education as he seeks feedback to develop his skills, works diligently to improve, and collaborates with others in small group discussions. He will often help students during flex as they work on their research paper, and he displays patience and genuine care for his classmates. Most importantly, he is a model of Christian charity and a pleasure to have in class. Congratulations, Liam!"
Mrs. Fugate nominated Senior Addison Mann for Crusader of the Week in Psychology 105.
"Addison is an absolute joy to have in class! She not only works hard, but Addison also comes to class ready to learn each and every day! She is always willing to ask or answer a question, and effortlessly engages with her teacher and classmates! Addison, thank you for being a wonderful student and role model for others...I wish I could teach 10 more of you:) Congratulations, Addison!"
