Academic Showcase
English II students have been reading The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by Shakespeare. In their deep dive, they have had the opportunity to act out a dramatic interpretation of some scenes. Students were eager to perform with their peers in the Blackbox theater! All of this has culminated into the assassination of Caesar, which happened this week. Et tu Brute?

A Message from the boy’s Lacrosse Coach
Hello, my name is Tom McKee, I am the boy’s lacrosse coach at St. Henry District High School, I want to welcome new families to St. Henry and welcome back our returning students.
I hope everyone had a great "post covid" summer and is settled into the new school year. I would like to commend you for deciding to commit your family (and your resources) to Catholic education, especially a Catholic education at St. Henry. The administration and staff pride themselves on providing the best quality scholastic education combined with the teachings of the Church to ensure our students have a well-rounded high school experience. My wife Michele and I believe it was one of the best decisions we have ever made for our two sons.
Lacrosse became a sport at St. Henry two years ago. Unfortunately, both of these years were played during covid. The goal this year is to play a schedule post covid and to expand our roster. Whether you are an experienced player or very new to the sport we have a place for you. Lacrosse is one of the easiest games to pick up, the fast-paced action never stops and you will forge friendships that will last a lifetime. Please check the web page on the school site and if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
We are looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you into the "CRU NATION."

Freshmen Retreat - October 20
Students attended Mass at Cristo Rey Church during the retreat, participated in team learning experiences that were connected to scriptural lessons, and loved the opportunity to sing praise and worship music.
Sponsors Needed
We need sponsors to help students attend The National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC). This conference, filled with prayer, prestigious Catholic speakers, and prayer, is $400 per student and a barrier for some students to attend this life-changing event. If you are able to help sponsor a student, please let us know.
Mrs. Poat met Bishop Iffert at the Summit 21 youth retreat. We look forward to meeting and welcoming Bishop Iffert to SHDHS on November 12 during our Blue Ribbon Celebration.
Senior Retreats in November - Retreat rosters have been shared with students. Senior parents, look for an information letter and permission form early next week.

Crusaders of the Week
Mrs. VonHandorf nominates Addison Millsap Crusader of the Week. Addison is nominated because of her consistent quality of art, her creative thought, and her determination to get better and learn. She is so much fun to have in class and sets a great example for her peers. She also willingly offers helpful and constructive criticism. WAY TO ROCK ADDISON!!
The Crusader of the Week for Latin 3 is Henry Barsan. For the past 3 years, Henry has impressed his teacher and classmates with his quick grasp of the Latin language. He is an active participant in class, both sharing and discussing his translations with ease. When reviewing difficult grammar concepts, Henry’s classmates can always count on him to remember how to decline a difficult noun or translate an irregular verb. He is an outstanding member of our Latin 3 team. Congratulations Henry!

Art Club is up to big things!
Art Club has been busy working on a variety of service projects and went on their first group trip since March of 2020! On October 8, Art Club members traveled to Louisville to see the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular which showcases thousands of carved Jack O'Lanterns. The students enjoyed the trip as a good way to wrap up several service projects, which included painting custom signs for Flying Pig Marathon runners and creating Halloween costumes for the babies in the NICU at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Art Club has partnered with Flying Pig for the last nine years, and this is the third year making Halloween costumes for the babies!
Two Seniors were selected for the Art Show!

Alumni News
Did you know three SHDHS alumni are in formation for the priesthood? AJ Gedney was ordained a transitional deacon and will be a priest in six months, John Baumann is in his last year of Seminary, and Brad Whittle recently entered. Meet Brad:
"Hi, My name is Brad Whittle, and I am studying to be a Priest! I Graduated from St. Henry in 2015 and went to study education at UC. When I graduated in 2020, I entered Seminary! I love to write and record music (available on iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube), and my favorite movie is Lord of the Rings. My favorite saints are Padre Pio, Therese of Lisieux, and Bernard of Clairvaux. If you have never seriously considered a vocation to Priesthood or Religious Life, I highly encourage it. There is so much joy and peace in following the call God has placed on your heart. You’ll never know what he has in store for you until you ask! (Jeremiah 29:11) SHDHS is a great place to grow in holiness and find out that call! I hope you let good ol’ SHS (rah rah rah!) continue to help you become a saint. You won’t be disappointed! Maybe one day, you’ll be someone else’s favorite saint."
Several years ago, Brad donated a kidney to a stranger in need! Is he as amazing as he sounds? Yes. Was he a normal student to teach? Yes! Mr. Fay remembers him to be a combination of "quirky, dorky, athletic, and spiritual," and Mrs. Poat remembers how off-topic he was, “like Tigger bouncing from one thing to the next and is very grateful that he bounced into the seminary”. He is an inspiring person to follow on Facebook.
Some of Brad's musical accomplishments:
- co-wrote song, "I Will Never Leave You,” with Bobby Fisher
- first original song, "Love Abides Within,” proceeds to benefit the Franciscan Daughters of Mary
- second song, "Take and Eat," is currently in a liturgical music competition
- performs and records Disney cover songs with proceeds going to the Kidney Walk fundraiser
- he is in a band with his fellow seminarians called the Holy Haggis Band.
Important Upcoming Dates:
- Oct. 25-29 - Red Ribbon Week
- Oct. 29 - Out of Uniform Day (Halloween Costume Contest)
- Nov. 1 - No school
- Nov. 2,3 & 4 - Senior Retreat - off Campus
- Nov. 5 - Early dismissal 1:00 pm
- Nov. 6 - BINGO, 4:00 pm

We would like to thank all of our sponsors
