Academic Showcase
Precal Class (Mrs. Duff's Class)
Mrs. Duff’’s Honors Precal students made some awesome Desmos Art in class Friday! Students learned about transformations and piecewise functions, so they had to program all of these pictures using equations, graphs, and inequalities.
Here are some screenshots of the best of the best:
Sam Lewis (100% first place winner!)
STEM Exploration and STEM Honors (Mrs. Bessler’s class)
The STEM Explorations and STEM Honors students were working hard in the lab again this week. They conducted 5 “tests”(solubility, flammability, reaction with vinegar, reaction with iodine, and microscopic observations) on four known substances (sugar, cornstarch, salt, and baking soda). Then they used this information to identify their “Mystery Substance.” Ask your students to tell you what was in their “Mystery Substance” and how they knew, or wait and read their lab report to discuss. They did a great job observing lab safety rules and completing a very busy lab in a timely manner!
English IV (Mrs. Rudowicz-Lux class)
English IV Students were introduced to Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales by going on a “virtual” pilgrimage to the Canterbury Cathedral in London. Following their reading, the seniors will compete against one another in a Canterbury Tales-themed Escape Room to test their knowledge of the text.

Campus Ministry
A note from our Campus Minister
Retreats. I have led and attended hundreds of retreats over the past 35 years as a youth minister, retreat director, and teacher. Having experienced many different styles of retreats, I have grown from each one of them. Surprisingly, the army definition of “Retreat!” is my favorite short explanation of what a retreat is and what to expect.. The military word or command to “Retreat!!!” doesn’t ask the troops to give up, give in, or surrender to the enemy. It calls them to fall back to a safe place, to regroup, reorganize, rest, and wait for new orders. The bonus of a Catholic retreat is that we leave society behind, briefly along with its worldview, to regroup, rest, and focus on Christ. This is a much more favorable environment to hear God’s invitation to encounter grace, mercy, and love. Please pray for the Seniors for the next few weeks as they attend their senior retreat on Nov 2-4 and 16-18. Utilize the following link to indicate a specific prayer for them. Your prayer offerings will be gathered and shared with them as a gift they will see from the Crusader School Family. Please share this opportunity with others.

Crusader of the Week
Ms. Poly finds it extremely fitting that her Crusader of the Week Award goes to Zander Vaillancourt in this scary Halloween week! Zander has a fantastic attitude. He is witty, polite, and continuously engaging. Zander walks into class every day with a great attitude. He talks and includes everyone and loves a good Minecraft competition. He is a joy to have in class and is a great programmer. Thank you for always being kind, Zander! Congratulations!

SHDHS Students Supporting Drug-Free Communities
On Tuesday, October 26, Noah and Nathan Francis, Ellie and Anna Quinn, and Mrs. Roebker represented SHDHS at the City of Florence Halloween Night Out "Trunk-or-Treat" event at the Florence Y'alls Ballpark. An estimated 800 cars drove through the stadium parking lot. Our students represented SHDHS so well by enthusiastically greeting each car and making sure every child received a bag of candy. The Boone County Alliance Coordinator, Jennifer Welch, who works with our students to promote Drug-Free Communities, was so complimentary of our students! Way to go, Noah, Nathan, Ellie, and Anna!
Noah Francis won the Think the Vote national competition this week for his answer on, "Should the United States Have a Debt Ceiling?" (https://www.thinkthevote.com/join-the-debate/should-the-united-states-have-a-debt-ceiling/). He has won a $25 prize pack and is entered to win a $1000 scholarship at the end of the year. Congratulations, Noah!
Spanish Honor Society Induction Ceremony
La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica held its Induction Ceremony on October 25, 2021. Our SHDHS chapter, La Sagrada Familia, inducted four new members into the Spanish Honor Society: Rachel Esquivel, Ella Rolfsen, Karla Schmidt, and Ella Tabor. New members participated in the initiation ceremony, led by President Dania Foltz and Secretary Abby Enzweiler. Current members and officers also welcomed the family members of the new inductees and shared in teaching them about the service and activities of the club. We are excited for this upcoming year and thrilled to have our new members join our chapter of la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.
