Congratulations to the SHDHS Academic Team!
They are State Bound in the 2026 Governor’s Cup tournament. The Quick Recall team took first place at Regionals last weekend. Luke Jankowski, Aneesh Sehgal, Samuel Haubner, and Noah Von Handorf dominated the competition all the way until the final round (suffering a minor setback against Henry County before cruising to victory).
In individual testing, Luke placed 1st in Social Studies & 3rd in Arts & Humanities, Samuel placed 2nd in Science & 4th in General Knowledge, and Aneesh placed 5th in Social Studies & 2nd in General Knowledge. Great job, Cru!

Speech Communication students analyzed a live class discussion of 12 Angry Men. Students focused on the communication process, word choice, nonverbal cues, breakdowns and repairs, and overall effectiveness. Seniors observed for feedback and clarity to tone, posture, and moments where meaning had to be negotiated.
To sharpen their focus, students played Secret Fitness Agent to train their eyes and ears to recognize that communication skills, like muscles, grow stronger with awareness and practice.
Thank you, CRU 101, for allowing them to observe your thoughtful discussion and share our findings.

The Freshman AP Human Geography class this week began their unit on Urbanization. To start, they played the urban game, where the tiny village they created turned into an industrialized city. They discussed the importance of roads and technology, as well as the necessary vision of future plans.

Mr. Hudson nominated Sophomore Charlie Ramsey for Crusader of the Week in Religion 2.
"Charlie is an excellent student. He always has a smile on his face and is very outgoing. He currently has an "A" in the class and never misses a homework assignment. He tends to have a good moral compass and is well-liked by his peers. He has a great personality and is an overall excellent student. He is friendly and well-liked. He has a fantastic personality, is confident and attentive, and I have been honored to have him as a student in my class."
Ms. Lindsay, Mrs. Thelen, & Mrs. Ryan nominated Freshman Gracyn Harris for Crusader of the Week in AAIMS 1.
"Gracie is the perfect model of quiet leadership in class, as she comes to class prepared and focused to accomplish her work. If others become distracted, she instead exudes maturity and self-control and remains focused. Gracie has grown in her ability to advocate for what she needs to learn best, and without being asked, happily steps in to help her classmates and teachers when needed. We are so lucky to have Gracie in our class and know without a doubt that her future is bright! Congratulations, Gracie!"

There have been some questions raised by parents about hazards to watch for at home with their students. There is more out there than ever before that can lead to health issues, addiction, and other challenges for young people. One of the most common is a nicotine pouch. They are about one inch in length and placed in the mouth along the gumline. They are small, unscented, and easily concealed. The containers can be confused with gum, candy, or mints. They are extremely addictive and come with all the problems of any other nicotine product. Many parents are finding these used pouches in their home or laundry, and are unaware of what they are.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into our children’s daily lives through educational tools, chatbots, smart toys, and personal digital content. While AI offers significant opportunities for learning and engagement, it also presents unique safety and developmental challenges. Ensuring children’s AI safety requires a multi-layered approach that involves parents, educators, policy makers, and technology designers. Topics will include risks, warning signs of harm, and practical strategies for age-appropriate AI introduction. Dr. Sanchez will also speak about pornography, social media, and overall safety for your child in an increasingly dangerous digital world.
A must-see presentation for anyone who cares about children and the vulnerable in our world today.
