Class of 2020
ReCRUnection Celebration
The SHDHS Class of 2020, a class that “came as many” in the fall of 2016, was never given an opportunity to “leave as one.” This holiday season, your Crusader family would like to give them that gift.
Please save the date for Wednesday, January 5, 1:00 pm
Graduates from the Class of 2020 are invited to celebrate their successes, reconnect with classmates, and revisit the halls of SHDHS. Please look for invites, with RSVP information, in mailboxes later this month. We look forward to seeing the SHDHS Class of 2020 back on campus!

Advent
Good and Gracious God, as we enter into the second week of Advent, keep us in perfect peace as our mind stays on the truth of your powerful love. Thank you for your mighty, sovereign hand. Help us to trust fully in you and rest in the peace that you offer. Bless our families and school that we may love and serve you above all other things. Amen.
Advent is a beautiful, prayerful time at SHDHS. Pink and purple lights line the hallways and are a visual reminder of the liturgical season. The week started with an all-school Advent prayer service and ended with Confession on Thursday and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday. Here is a ten-minute Advent Virtual Retreat for your use this season click here. Enjoy this sacred season of waiting!
NCYC 2021
SHDHS was blessed to bring 16 of our students to the National Catholic Youth Conference that took place in Indianapolis last month. NCYC is a high-energy youth conference for Catholic high school students from all over the US. There were over 12,000 people in attendance.
Some responses from our students include:
"NCYC was a great experience. It helped me grow deeper in my faith. It was also a lot of fun getting lost with Deacon Larry" -Nick-Grade 12
"The environment at NCYC reminds me that I am not the only teen who wants to deepen their faith. The environment of pure acceptance, love, and excitement is the real way I experienced God at NCYC. If I had the option to never leave NCYC, I would definitely stay forever. I have never felt more real, confident, or important than at NCYC. The community and environment at NCYC showed me the kind of environment I want to surround myself in for the rest of my life." -Sasha Grade 12
"It's so inspiring and comforting to be surrounded by so many people that are your own age and believe in the same things you do, it helps you realize you're not so alone" -Ellie Grade 12
"NCYC was a great experience, my favorite part was Adoration and singing and praying with over 10,000 other youths. It will always stick with me and has forever changed my view of the Faith." -Cheyenne-Grade 12
"NCYC is not your typical religious retreat, which is why I actually loved it and would do it again." - Mackenzie- Grade 12
"It was incredible to be around thousands of other teens. I enjoyed all the games and the witness talks were inspiring. Also, it was fun meeting people from around the U.S."
-Leah Grade 12

Crusaders of the Week
Mr. Denning nominates Austin Cutcher Accounting I Crusader of the Week. Austin's attention to detail and solid grasp of business and accounting concepts has been evident throughout the semester. He is quick to help those around him while also pushing ahead with his own work. His ability to find and correct his own missteps makes him a valuable resource for everyone in the classroom. Austin's contribution to class is best summed up by paraphrasing his tablemate: I look to Austin for guidance all the time. Congratulations Austin!
Mrs. VonHandorf nominates Anna Fischer Crusader of the Week for Art 2. Anna is nominated because of her consistently high quality of work, her extremely creative and thought-out ideas, and her willingness to try new things. She is super respectful in class, does a nice job staying on task, and comes prepared to work. She sets a great example for her peers. WAY TO ROCK, ANNA!
Mrs. Reding would like to nominate senior Jay Giffin for Crusader of the Week in AP Statistics.
From filibuster Fridays to his always-insightful observations, Jay provides our 6th period Stats class with countless learning opportunities.
There are many reasons that Jay has been chosen for this award, but most of all, it's because no student has ever self-campaigned for Crusader of the Week as much as Jay has for himself. After daily reminders on who to vote for, the rest of the class (and Dallas) have come to this unanimous decision.
Thank you, Jay, for making this first semester of AP Stats interactive and fun. Keep up the great work! Congratulations!

The Varsity team, Charlie Barsan, Peter Constant, Jack Goodwin, Harry Barsan, and James Constant placed 2nd overall, losing to longtime-winner Campbell County by only one point. This team also placed 2nd in the 5-person team portion of the competition and 3rd in the individual written competition. Charlie Barsan and Peter Constant also received an honorable mention for their tests.
The JV team of Gabe Thelen, Stefany Nix, Jason Bish, and Nathan Francis placed 2nd overall in the JV category in their first time at the competition. They also placed 3rd in the 5-person team competition and 2nd in the individual written competition. Stefany Nix, Jason Bish, and Nathan Francis received honorable mentions for their individual tests.
Additional congratulations to the team of Libby Deis, Mitchell Wolking, Anay Sehgal, Morgan Bonno, and John Lubert, who also did an exceptional job this weekend!
Looking forward to more success in 2022! These teams are coached by Ms. Grosser. Congratulations to all!
The National Honor Society has adopted eleven elderly friends at Emerald Spring Nursing Home in Erlanger. Each month, NHS members have been writing notes and sending small gifts to their friends. This month, with Christmas right around the corner, the NHS students packed up stockings of essentials for the wintertime for their friends. Thanks to Mrs. Kolkmeier for providing the essentials and if anyone has things they would like to donate, we'd be more than happy to take them. NHS members also wrote 200 Christmas cards out to the rest of the residents to spread more Christmas cheer. NHS is excited to get into a more active role in the community in the 2nd semester but for now, this project has been fun!
Fall Play - "Fools" by Neil Simon
Congratulations to the cast and crew of "Fools"! What an absolutely phenomenal weekend of performances prior to Thanksgiving! These students demonstrated talent, diligence, resourcefulness, and maturity throughout the entire process of bringing this show to life. The production was directed primarily by SHDHS Senior Jay Giffin, with the support of our Drama Department (Mr. Ethan Avina and Ms. Sofie Vietas). It was a wonderful escape into the fictional town of Kulyenchikov to watch love blossom, knowledge spread, and curses break. Thank you to the cast, crew, directors, producers, and parents for such an amazing experience.
Mark your calendars and join us for “ A Choral Christmas” in the Drees Homes Auditorium, Thursday, December 9 at 7:00 pm. Presented by the SHDHS Chorus and Chamber Choir. Admission is free. This is a good opportunity to enter more deeply into the Advent Season!

Information for all juniors and sophomores who "opted-in:"
Students will have access to their score reports in their online College Board account on December 6. Please see the following document and video links for how to log in. If a student has an account (from AP registration or previous PSAT testing), the PSAT scores will be available in that account. If this is the first College Board assessment, the student will need to create an account. Students who provided an email address on their answer sheet will be sent an email to that address with a reminder about score access.
Juniors will receive more information during classroom visits with Mr. Reeves and Mr. Sarge on December 10. Since the October 2021 PSAT was a practice test and not time-sensitive for sophomores, Mrs. Roebker will be meeting with the sophomores who “opted-in” when school resumes in early January.
