The SHDHS art club has developed a partnership with the Flying Pig, which is now in its 10th year! The runners say they appreciate the creativity of the signs and are thankful for the continued support from our SHDHS Crusaders, aka The Flying "Pigassos"!
Senior Noah Francis placed 10th in Kentucky in the Individual Future Problem Solving (FPS) Competition, an FPS Component Event held during the state Governor’s Cup competition weekend. Noah worked through the future problem-solving process to formulate challenges, develop an underlying problem, create solutions, and develop an action plan to solve a futuristic problem surrounding the topic of mining. As mining resources become increasingly limited, mining has become more dangerous and poses heightened risks to nearby populations and the environment. Noah’s solution considered science, safety, efficiency, global debate, political tension, and other facets involved in this topic.
Congratulations, Noah!

Campus Ministry
Pray for Mother’s Day and World Day of Vocations - May 8
Mother of the Word Incarnate never has it been known that anyone who sought your intercession, was left unaided. Intercede for all mothers, for the grace they need to live the calling of sacrificial love and motherhood. Bless them with wisdom and fortitude. Strengthen us all with the Holy Spirit to guide our homes and schools, cultivating vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and holy marriages. We ask for a deepening of spiritual gifts for our students and alumni. May they hear and respond generously to the call to faithfully follow the gospel. Amen.
Pro-LIfe Retreat
High school students are invited to a Pro-Life Training Boot Camp and Retreat sponsored by the Franciscan Daughters of Mary, July 7 - 11 at St. Anne Retreat Center. The deadline to register is June 9. Information https://www.prolifebootcamp.org/events.
All School Mass
Our last all-school Mass embodied our motto, "Come As Many, Leave as One." The celebrant was Fr. Michael Hennigen, pastor of Holy Cross Church, and leader of many diocesan youth events. He was assisted by Deacon Jim Fortner of Blessed Sacrament Church and Deacon Eric Ritchie of Holy Cross Church. Both Deacons are parents of current Crusaders. Musicians were comprised of faculty, Mr. Denning, Mr. Fay, Mr. Payne, Ms. Vollmer, Mr. Von Bokern, and Mr. Zvosecz, representing five different subject areas and six different Churches. Father encouraged everyone to finish the year strong and to hold on to what is real, both the invisible and visible presence of Christ. The final song, "Yes! Lord, Yes!" was a fitting closure and affirmation of that challenge.

Counselors Corner
ATTENTION FRESHMEN PARENTS
On May 19, the freshmen class will be taking the Terrace Metrics Inc. assessment during the school day to examine their social/emotional strengths and needs. (The assessment takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.) While not a diagnosis tool, this survey will allow us to gauge their needs and determine what support, programming, and interventions will be most valuable as look ahead to the 2022-2023 school year.
For this survey, we will be looking at the following resilience indicators:
Global Satisfaction
Hope
Leadership
Personal Standards
Positive School Experience
Resiliency
The data gathered via Terrace Metrics is kept strictly confidential and only those in the Counseling Department and Administration (Mr. Gish & Mr. Brannen) will have access to the data. If you do not want your freshman student to participate, the deadline to inform Mrs. Roebker via email is May 13. Email: [email protected]
SHDHS will be represented in the 2022-2023 Regional Youth Leadership Program
Sydney Bollman and Camryn Reymond have been selected to join the Regional Youth Leadership (RYL) Program. Only 45 rising juniors representing 30 high schools were selected to participate. Sydney and Camryn had to complete a comprehensive application process in order to be selected by RYL for the program.
As a program of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, RYL is in a unique position to convene a diverse group of stakeholders invested in the success of our youth and future workforce. Sydney and Camryn will be participating in a seven-month program that introduces them to industries, organizations, career opportunities, and all the great things happening in the NKY region.
Congrats to Sydney and Camryn! We are confident they will do a great job representing SHDHS next year!
