SHDHS is thrilled to share exciting news with our families, students, and community. Bridget Kaiser-Munday has been asked to serve as part of the Teachers Council for the Bill of Rights Institute. Bridget is 1 of only 15 members nationwide to serve on this council! This achievement is a testament to Bridget's passion and hard work to make SHDHS a School of Excellence. Bridget's Government and AP Government students have participated in weekly “Think the Vote” competitions in the last five years. At that time, SHDHS had the highest winning percentage! To learn more, please visit https://billofrightsinstitute.org/.
Congrats to Mandy Schlueter, Kentucky Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year!

New CRU (incoming Freshmen) Night and New Parent (freshmen and transfer parents) Orientation.
August 9, 2023
6:30 - 8:00 pm
We know that starting the next school chapter can be a little intimidating. How will I get my locker open? What will happen to my friends? Will I remember how to get to Biology? The Cru is here to put our incoming freshman minds at ease with practical information and also a fun way to reconnect with old friends and get to know their new classmates! SHDHS has students entering from many schools across the Tri-State, and this is a fantastic way for them to start living out our motto: Come as Many, Leave as One.
Students will meet their classmates and interact with upperclassmen, student volunteers, and faculty members to make them feel comfortable and excited to enter the halls of SHDHS on their first day! More details are coming soon!
Watch your email for an invitation with an RSVP link!
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Please wait until school starts and students meet with their teachers to review the syllabus for each class before purchasing supplies.
School Uniforms - The uniform policy is found on page 42 in the Student Handbook.
SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS
SHDHS will offer Math and English Summer Enhancement Programs. SHDHS students will not have required summer assignments. Click here for more information.
SERVICE HOURS REQUIRED
Service Hours - If you have any questions about Service Hours, please direct your questions to Mr. Z at [email protected].
Incoming freshmen should keep a personal record of the service they do. Keep a record of (1) the agency you served with, (2) the number of hours you served for, and (3) the contact information (email or phone number) of somebody at the agency who can confirm your presence. When you arrive at school, we will help you set up a MobileServe account associated with SHDHS and will help you log any summer service hours.
As a reminder to all students, here is a description of the difference between Red Hours and White Hours. Red Hours include direct and on-site service at non-profit agencies that benefit people who are poor, sick, vulnerable, or otherwise marginalized in society. White Hours is a service at a parish, school, or civic community that benefits that institution or community.

FEC News
Greetings from your Family Engagement Council (the FEC)! We hope you are enjoying your summer. We are also starting to plan for the coming school year. August/September are very busy months for the FEC, and we have many open chair and volunteer positions to fill to operate smoothly.
Last year we had a handful of volunteers do most of the work, and several of those volunteers have graduated. We are not only hoping but needing to get more parents involved this year. It is a great way to get to meet other parents, get to know the faculty, and have fun!
Click here for a sneak peek of the FEC newsletter. Please see the areas where help is needed, and feel free to direct message or email me with any questions. WE NEED YOU! Thanks so much for your time and consideration.

Travel Opportunities
Earlier this month, several Crusaders and Crusader parents, along with Ms. Brady and Mrs. VonHandorf traveled abroad to Europe. This summer’s adventure took us to the Swiss Alps and along the Mediterranean Coast, from Italy to Monaco to France to Spain. Each day brought new and beautiful scenery, cultural magic, and lifelong memories. We experienced European treasures like Mount Pilatus in the Alps, Lake Lucerne, Lake Como, the historical villages of Cinque Terre, the hills and food of Tuscany, the beaches of Nice, and the charm of Avignon and Toledo, then finished up our trip in the bustling cities of Barcelona and Madrid.
Nothing can beat the opportunity to travel and experience the world. Check out all the smiles on our Instagram page @crutravels. Remember, we are taking another trip in 2025 to Germany and Austria. If interested, please contact Mrs. Katie VonHandorf ([email protected]) or Ms. Kyla Brady ([email protected]) for more information.
