DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, THIS ISSUE OF THE CRU-NEWS DID NOT GO OUT ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCOVENIENCE.

Congratulations to senior Gavin Armbruster for achieving his DOT 3-G Welding Certification! This is an outstanding accomplishment, and we are so proud of him.

Crusader Cheerleaders Mackenzie McMain, Megan Gonzalez, and Ashleigh Reed enjoyed Sunday cheering with the DSGAC group at UC. The girls represented SHDHS exceptionally well!

On Monday, Spanish Club and Spanish Honor Society students celebrated the Christmas season by recreating the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas. Las Posadas commemorates Joseph and Mary's journey to Bethlehem in search of a place to give birth to baby Jesus. Participants go house to house asking for shelter and singing carols. We sang these traditional songs, villancicos, in Spanish, recreating the Holy Family and asking for a room at the inn.
As is customary, our students broke open a star-shaped piñata filled with toys and candy, and then we enjoyed some traditional Mexican food, desserts, and drinks, like atole. We had so much fun learning about this cultural and religious tradition and celebrating the Christmas season.
The Spanish Club and Spanish Honor Society wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. ¡Feliz Navidad y Próspero Año Nuevo!
CRUSADER OF THE WEEK

Mrs. Coronado nominates Senior Olive Williams for Crusader of the Week for Spanish III.
"Three years" ago, Olive started her Spanish journey. I have been blessed to have her in my classroom all this time. Since the beginning, Olive has expressed her enthusiasm for learning a second and even a third language. She took the class very seriously from day one. Even though her family has greatly inspired her, her respect and passion for practicing her Spanish are outstanding. Watching her grow in understanding, participation, and appreciation for school and life has been delightful. I love it when you blurt out or compare cultural phrases in my class. Thank you for bringing your patience and helpful nature to our class. Sigue adelante Olive!"
Mrs. Brady nominates Junior Kacie Costello for Crusader of the Week for United States History.
"Kacie has d "demonstrated an absolute mastery of the content throughout our course this year. She consistently engages during class lectures, structured work time, and group activities. She has shown a true dedication to understanding the topics covered and is diligent in her efforts to find success no matter the challenge. Kacie has also consistently scored well on assessments, particularly on written assessments and research-based tasks, which require a true comprehension of the material and the ability to articulate what you know. Her work ethic, focus, attitude, and enthusiasm for learning benefit her overall performance in this course. Congratulations, Kacie, keep up the good work! "
Mr. Wyatt nominates Sophomore Isaac Cripe for Crusader of the Week for Beginning Band.
"Isaac works hard and plays his parts rarely with mistakes. He is confident in asking questions or for clarification when necessary. Isaac is 100% engaged and helpful to everyone around him each day. He is an asset to the band and a gift to the Crusader family. Congratulations, Isaac!!"

WHAT: Financial Aid Night
WHEN: Monday, December 16, 2024
TIME: 6 pm.
WHERE: SHDHS - Drees Homes Auditorium
AGENDA: The Director of Financial Aid from Thomas More University will be here to discuss the financial aid process and FAFSA application for all colleges and universities (not only TMU).
NOTES: The Federal Government has made changes again this year to the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) that will affect current college students and high school seniors filing the FAFSA for the first time.
